As at 8 July 2013, India will become the 90th member of the Madrid Protocol for the International Registration of Trademarks at WIPO and part of the Madrid Trademark system. Holders of an existing German or Community Trademark Registration – known as basic registration – will soon be able to extend their trademark portfolio through a single, simplified and cost-effective procedure to India as one of the fastest growing economies among the five BRICS-states.
Further information on India joining the Madrid Trademark System can be found at WIPO´s webpage.
